A man believed to be in his late 30’s was shot and killed by police today.
The incident occurred at around 6:11 p.m. near a river, located close to the Soufriere Library.
A resident told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that he heard a loud sound, but didn’t take it seriously.
“Then I heard three more shots. In total I heard six shots. I then saw some kids running towards the library. So I followed and saw the guy laying in the river,” the resident said.
He said the man was allegedly being chased by the police and sustained one or more shots to his abdomen.
The individual, who is said to be of unsound mind, was taken to the Soufriere Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim was identified by residents as someone by the name of ‘Kervin’, who resides in Palmiste, Soufriere.
It is not clear what led to the shooting, but police officials told SNO that the matter is being investigated.
A police officer reportedly sustained injuries to his leg, during this incident.
