PRESS RELEASE – On Sunday, August 30, 2015 about 5:00 a.m. officers from the Gros-Islet Police Station were dispatched to the Reduit Beach in Gros-Islet upon receiving certain information.
Upon arrival, the officers retrieved the body of a female near the Reduit Beach shoreline.
The body, later identified as 52 year old, Sophia Delia Charles Didier of Reduit Gros-Islet was transported to the Victoria Hospital where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
A post mortem examination conducted later that day on the body, revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation (condition of being deprived of oxygen) secondary to drowning.
The examination also revealed neck trauma and blunt trauma about the body.
There is an individual in custody assisting police with investigations.
This is the seventeenth homicide for the year 2015.
