PRESS RELEASE – Last year July, Corporal Marcus George of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force successfully participated in an eight-week training course in Forensic Science, Firearm Examination and Identification and Firearm Verification which was arranged by the Consul General Mr. Michael Willius, through the Toronto Police Service, Ontario Police College (OPC) and Forensic Investigation Service (FIS).
Following this partnership, from May to October this year, Corporal George returned for further training with the Toronto Police Service, the OPC and the FIS where he pursued specialized training in the Firearms Facilitator, Use of Force Trainers and Advanced Firearms Investigation courses.
During his tenure, he continued working with the training staff of the OPC by volunteering his services in the Defensive Tactics area with the training of the Colleges Basic Constable recruits.
Upon completion of the training, Corporal Marcus George received a certificate in Firearms Facilitator Course, Use of Force Trainer course and Advanced Firearms Investigation course.
Allan Phibbs, Deputy Director of Training at the Ontario Police College remarked “During his stay at the OPC he displayed a high level of professionalism and demonstrated the type of leadership we expect to be seen in full time instructional staff. He will be returning to his organization with enhanced skills as a police trainer in the specialized area noted above.”
This collaboration between Corporal Marcus George of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force and the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Police College will undoubtedly be beneficial to Saint Lucia and, will present future training opportunities for furthering the expertise of other Police Officers.
