The police today refuted claims by human rights advocate Mary Francis that the office of the commissioner has ignored her request for information on the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Mandy Louisy of Babonneau.

“The office of the commissioner of police would like to confirm receipt of two letters from the chambers of Mary Francis, one dated September 30, 2013, and the other November 21, 2013,” a police statement said.

“The letter dated September 30 sought an update on the non fatal shooting of Mr. Malvern “Delco” Joseph of Anse La Raye; while the one dated November 21, 2013 requested the names of the officers involved in the shooting death of Mandy Louisy.”

It said the commissioner responded to the letters on November 27.

“On the Malvern “Delco” Joseph matter, the commissioner informed Ms. Francis that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had returned the file with appropriate recommendations which would be acted on. He also informed her that she would be notified of the outcome of the matter in due course,” the statement said.

“In relation to the Mandy Louisy matter, the commissioner informed Ms. Francis that he was unable to provide the names of the officers as the file had been submitted to the office of the DPP, who in due course would make a determination on the matter or defer it to an appropriate judicial authority for a decision.

“The commissioner also invited Ms. Francis to make the necessary arrangements with his office should she want to further discuss the matters.”
