One man is now dead and another seriously wounded following a gruesome chopping incident that took place in Belmont, Derniere Riviere on Saturday, Jan. 11 shortly after midday.
Dead is Kurt Deterville aka Jock of Morne Panache, Derniere Riviere, Dennery. The 32-year-old sustained a deep wound to his right leg and apparently bled to death. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Richfond Health Centre.
The survivor is 51-year-old Herbert Ange aka Jarrod of Belmont, Derniere Riviere, who was transferred to Victoria Hospital from Richfond Health Centre with multiple lacerations including a wound stretching from his left eye to the back of his neck.
Both men were allegedly armed with cutlasses.
Photos obtained by our newsroom show the two men on the ground bleeding profusely from multiple chop wounds.
Reports are that the two men were involved in a heated altercation that resulted in bloodshed. The cause of the altercation is not yet ascertained by our news team.
This is the second recorded homicide for 2014 and the second chopping incident in Dennery for the year.
The first homicide occurred on Thursday, Jan. 2 when 27-year-old Joel Nobal, otherwise called “Wells” and “Willie”, of New Village, Castries was shot in the head while sitting under a shed in his community.
The first chopping incident occurred just 14 hours into 2014 when a man’s right hand was severed by a masked attacker in Au Leon, Dennery. The victim was reportedly in the company of some people by the road, opposite a bar, when the attack was launched.
