Police say 29-year-old Asher Nelson has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a chopping incident which left another man with a severed right hand on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).
Nelson had initially faced a maim charge but this was subsequently changed to attempted murder.
He appeared before a magistrate on Monday and was remanded into custody.
Reports are that the victim’s right hand was severed by a masked attacker about 2 pm in Au Leon, Dennery. The victim was reportedly in the company of some people by the road, opposite a bar, when the attack was launched.
“A masked man came and attack a man in the Au Leon gap and ran away,” a resident of the area had said.
