Nail polish removers contain toxic substance such as thyl acetate or nethyl ethyl, which when ingested can cause poisoning.

Nail polish removers contain toxic substances such as: thyl acetate or nethyl ethyl. Ingesting this can cause poisoning.

A female allegedly attempted suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance on Wednesday evening over a recent break up with her boyfriend but was saved by the intervention of neighbours.

Police Public Relations Department official Zachary Hippolyte said police responded to the report about 9:54.p.m. (Aug.24) in Cabiche, Babonneau and upon arrival they found the female unresponsive in her bedroom.

Reports are that the unknown female had passed out after ingesting what neighbours claim was nail polish remover and was lying flat on the floor.

However, no one had access to the house.

A neighbour who asked not to be named, told the media that after hearing some noise, he and another male decided to investigate and realised that something was amiss.

With the assistance of another person, the men smashed in the back window of the female’s house to gain entry and found her lying naked on her bedroom floor.

“When we reach inside there we saw the girl have a whole set of knives and nail polish remover bottle which was empty like she drank that,” the neighbour said.

The men covered her up and rushed her to the hospital where she is currently being treated.

Babonneau has recorded several suicide cases during last year and at the beginning of this year.
