Saint Lucia’s Police Commissioner Severin Moncherry has again responded to claims of political interference at the Royal Saint Lucia Police (RSLPF), asserting that he will never allow this to happen under his watch.

Moncherry said he will quit if politicians try to interfere in the operations of the RSLPF. “The day that is to happen – if it ever happens, I will not be in that chair,” he said on Police Insight on Monday.

There have been speculation that the new national security minister Hermangild Francis, a former deputy police chief, is allegedly attempting to influence decisions at the RSLPF.

However, Moncherry said the minister is just passionate about the force, having served on the executive.

“I worked with him for a very long time so he knows my style and I know his. He knows a lot about the force so this is a plus in that he knows the challenges that we face and the problems that we have to deal with,” Moncherry said.

The top cop said Francis has never attempted to interfere even before his first meeting with the executive.

The minister has also spoken publicly about the accusations, stating that he has only offered advice to Moncherry and his executive team and has no intention of ever interfering with the operations of the Force.
