A 29-year-old man who claims he was wrongfully shot by police has acquired the services of a private attorney and is seeking compensation from the state.

Manassa Brown will be represented by popular defense attorney Alberton Richelieu, it has been reported.

Brown was shot in his lower abdomen during August, while heading to his mother’s shop at Bagatelle.

As a result of the incident, his bladder was punctured and he is still recuperating at home.

National Security Minister Hermangild Francis had publicly apologized to Brown’s family. The minister had met with the victim’s mother and aunt at his office to discuss the matter.

He had promised that the matter will be referred to the Attorney General so that some form of compensation can be discussed, but said a probe would determine whether the officer who shot Brown was negligent.

Brown said it was commendable that Francis apologized and sought to meet with his relatives.

The shooting victim maintains, however, that the police shooting was unprovoked.
