The Gros Islet Police Station has been reopened but at a new location: the Scouts Association in Massade, Gros Islet.
Police Commissioner Vernon Francois made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
The Gros Islet Police Station was moved from its usual Dauphin Street location in Gros Islet town to the Rodney Bay sub-station in August 2013 as a result of mold infestation. The station was also in need of repairs.
“So we did some renovation work on the Boys Scouts headquarters at Massade in Gros Islet and now the station is operating out of there,” Francois said.
The top cop said he’s hoping this is a “temporary arrangement until we can get a full scale sub-divisional headquarters for the Gros Islet region, because as I’ve said, Gros Islet is a very fast growing community and it is important for the policing needs in the area to be able to keep up with the rate of development…”
He added: “I think government too has recognised that and they/we are working at getting a proper divisional headquarters for Gros Islet.”
