news-update-The target of yesterday’s pepper-spray incident at the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in La Ressorce, Dennery has given her side of the story in an exclusive interview with St. Lucia News Online (SNO).

Kernisha Flavien, a resident of Aux Lyons, Dennery, was released from hospital Sunday afternoon while the suspect was arrested this morning.

Flavien was among three church members who received medical attention. She said the two other victims – her uncle’s wife who is a cancer patient and a man who tried to part the fight – were caught in the “crossfire”.

The 30-year-old alleges that the suspect has been harassing her and other persons on social media for months now.

“The young lady has been harassing me from last year and attacking me in social media,” she told SNO. “There are times that I have ignored her and times where I have taken her on with a back and forth on social media.

Flavien said the attack on social media continued in the New Year.

“Two Saturdays ago she started with the postings again and I took her on. Yesterday (Saturday) she also posted and I also took her on. She went to the police to report me that I am harassing her. Officer Phillip attached to the Richfond Police Station called me yesterday to say there was a report against me by the same young lady wanting to take me to court for social media harassment.

“I informed the officer that I have screenshots of all her postings showing that she is the instigator. I was supposed to meet with the officer this (Sunday) morning at 10 a.m. along with the young lady, but a few minutes after he called to cancel, saying the young lady will want to take me to court instead.”

Flavien said the feud spilled over into church on Sunday.

“This (Sunday) morning I got up for church and whilst in attendance her eyes met with mine, where I was sitting to the left and she was to the right of the church. She pointed her finger towards me like a threat and said to meet her outside before church was even dismissed. I did not go and went out when church was over then she attacked me with the pepper spray.”

Flavien said she is “saddened” that the incident occurred in front the church yard “being that I’m an animator at church and part of the choir”.
