Two St. Lucians who were caught in local waters with marijuana over the weekend have been formally charged.
Police said 23-year-old Jamel Gills and 36-year-old Deline Alexander, both of Soufriere, were charged with possession and possession with intent to supply 74.8 kilogrammes of marijuana.
Their bail hearing is set for Tuesday afternoon, police said.
In an earlier report, Police Marine Unit Commander Finley Leonce told St. Lucia News Online that the men’s boat were intercepted by police around 11 p.m. on Friday, one to two nautical miles west of Castries.
He said officers aboard a Police Marine Unit vessel were conducting a routine patrol when they observed a pirogue travelling in a northerly direction.
The Unit did a “routine boarding” of the vessel, and during a search, discovered a quantity of marijuana, Leonce said.
