Officers attached to the Special Service Unit (SSU) of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) are on high alert at the site of the Desert Star Holding (DSH) Project at Beausejour, Vieux-Fort, after someone posted a warning yesterday (Thursday) on social media, threatening to stop the project by causing destruction at the site.
The warning is purported to have come from one Lucian Edward of St. Lucia Aiming for Progress (SLAP).
It reads: “DSH signed documents are null and void. Not one more hole will be dug. Not one more piece of heavy equipment will touch this soil because we will destroy them even before they get to Vieux-Fort.”
Another post on social media read: “Tomorrow Friday 17th March, all roads lead to The DSH Construction site. Mission: To halt any further construction and remove all equipment by whatever means necessary. They can never stop all of us together so Come one come all and let us protect what is left of our Beaches and land. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. STOP DISRESPECTING THE PEOPLE. THEY WILL HEAR FROM US TOMORROW.”
But from all indication the police are prepared to deal with any form of confrontation at the site. This morning they were seen busy cordoning the entrance of the site, where preparatory work had begun a few weeks ago.
Police at the site have declined to give details of their activities there.
But one officer was overheard saying: “Let them come…. They don’t know what is good for them.”
Up to I: 00 p.m., there were no attempts by anyone to disrupt work on the project.
According to the workers on the project, a number of people have shown support for the project. They say from since the commencement of the project, many tradesmen and truckers have come to the site seeking employment.
