Three men were caught with drugs in a vessel located in St Lucia territorial waters on Friday.
Police said 31-year-old Timothy “Cherry” Edwin of Gardette, Dennery; 31-year-old Canius Ryan “Wahvet” Williams of Chassin, Babonneau; and 22-year-old Perland “Cahial” Louis of Over the Bridge in Dennery appeared in the Second District Court in Vieux Fort on Monday, June 10, 2013.
According to a police press release, the men were apprehended during a routine sea patrol at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013.
The arrests were made by officers who were attached to the Marine Unit of the Southern Division when they observed and attempted to intercept a pirogue viz bearing the name “Miracle” about 5.5 nautical miles south of Vieux Fort.
“The occupants were commanded to bring their vessel to a halt. Their immediate response was to increase its speed. A chase ensued. During that chase, the officers observed the occupants of the vessel throwing cargo overboard,” the report said.
“The vessel was eventually stopped and boarded. A search was conducted on the vessel as well as their occupants. The officers recovered two bags floating alongside the vessel. An examination of the bag revealed dry green plant material,” the report added.
The men are facing charges of possession and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.
