Press and Communications Manager in the Office of the Mayor, Jason Hullingseed, said Vendors Association President Peter 'Ras Ipa' Isaac (inset photo) is not been targeted by the Office.

Press and Communications Manager in the Office of the Mayor, Jason Hullingseed, said Vendors Association President Peter ‘Ras Ipa’ Isaac (inset photo) is not been targeted by the Office.

The Office of Mayor has been accused of recently sowing the seeds of a “malicious vendetta” against President of the St. Lucia Craft and Dry Goods Vendors Association, Peter ‘Ras Ip,’ who has been charged with electricity theft following an investigation into the matter last month by the Castries Constituency Council (CCC).

When confronted with Isaac’s accusations, Press and Communications Manager Jason Hullingseed said he is baffled, calling Isaac “paranoid”.

Hullingseed denies that Isaac is being targeted and victimised by the Office.

“Someone must be paranoid,” Hullingseed said, “because no one at the Council, its management, nor is the mayor about victimisation or targeting anyone.”

Hullingseed said the mayor, Peterson D. Francis, is about law and order, observing protocols and seeing that tenants of the CCC operate within the confines of the law.

“He (the mayor) believes in enforcement. At the end of the day let us respect the fact that the matter is before the courts and allow for due process in the outcome,” Hullingseed said.

But the outspoken Isaac said the charges are to silence him.

“I think it is a malicious vendetta against me, that’s directly what I see it as,” he told HTS.

Isaac has been charged for abstracting of electricity, but he claims he had a legal connection which has since been disconnected.

Hullingseed noted that no arrests had been made when investigations into this matter was launched last month.

He said Isaac was however was summoned on Tuesday, March 21 to appear before the courts on May 11, 2017 to answer to the charge.

He is also expected to answer to charges for insulting words and obscene language.

Just recently, Mayor Francis, while encouraging people to report any unlawful connections of power, sent a stern warning to vendors and tenants of the Castries Constituency Council who were tapping electricity illegally.

This came after reports of reported illegal connection at the Vendor’s Arcade.
