A 46-year-old woman was asleep and her 28-year-old daughter was also home when a thief allegedly entered their house in Anse Ger/Desruisseaux early this morning, ransacked the mother’s bedroom and stole several items including cash.
In an interview on Sunday, the mother, Marciana James, gave a detailed account of what occurred.
She said after being unable to fall asleep for hours because of a nagging pain in her left side, she finally snoozed around 3:45 a.m.
Minutes later, James said she awoke after smelling a strange “fragrance” which burned her nose.
She then got the shock of her life when she saw a “black shadow” of a male figure by the window of her bedroom. She said she instantly screamed and ran to the living room, and called her daughter who was in her bedrom.
According to James, her daughter heard a “little noise” coming from the window but thought it was her mother getting up in the middle of the night/morning as usual, and moving around.
James said she discovered that her room was ransacked and that her purse containing $500 along with her national identification and bank cards was also stolen. She said her music set was packed and television unplugged, evidence that the thief was preparing to leave with them.
She also discovered that the thief entered through her bedroom window by using her ladder.
What’s even stranger is that none of her four dogs made a sound.
All this happened within a few minutes, she told SNO. James does not believe the thief was there to rape, because she was totally naked in bed and he did not touch her.
“We not safe in St. Lucia, at all, at all, at all,” she remarked.
She said the police responded quickly and have since taken fingerprints.
James said she finds it strange that she heard nothing while the culprit ransacked her room, and that the normally miserable dogs were quiet. She estimated that the thief did all this activity within 10 minutes and may have had someone waiting in a vehicle.
“I don’t know what happen to us in St. Lucia, I don’t know what happen to us in St. Lucia, trust me,” said the confused woman.
She noted that last month, around midnight, she heard someone opening another window in the house. She screamed, the dogs started barking, and she saw a man wearing only boxers running from the yard. She claimed her brother, who was there at the time, attempted to give chase but she advised him not to, because the man may have had weapon.
James, who is unemployed, said she is unaware why anyone would want to target a struggling woman’s home.
She said she has no enemies.
“I am a very friendly lady. I don’t look for trouble…. I don’t have friends, it’s hey, good morning and that’s it. I don’t know what people want from me. To be honest I don’t know,” she said.
