Police said a middle-aged man was hospitalised in serious but stable condition after he was stabbed to the left side of the chest by a woman in Castries city earlier this week.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday, May 1 on Jn Baptiste Street, in the vicinity of the car park/supermarket, police said.
The female suspect, who is known to have lived in La Clery, Castries, was arrested for dangerous harm but was later released without charge pending further investigations, police said.
The victim, who is between 50 and 60 years old, has no fixed place of abode, police said.
According to the officials, the altercation started when the suspect attempted to take a walking stick (cane) from the victim.
Security officers, who were nearby, allegedly intervened to prevent the suspect from further harassing the victim.
However, this was shortlived as it was further alleged that the woman followed him as he left the area.
In an attempt to ward off the angry woman, the victim allegedly hit the suspect with the cane, which resulted in an escalation of the situation.
It is further alleged that the suspect pushed the victim to the ground, jumped on top of him and began to stab him.
After she was pulled off the victim, witnesses reportedly noticed that the man was bleeding from the chest area and was having difficulty standing up.
The suspected weapon, a screw driver, was retrieved from the scene.
He was transported to Victoria Hospital by ambulance.
It is not clear who owns the walking stick that the two were allegedly fighting over.
