A woman who was on a St. Lucia flight has been arrested by Guyanese authorities for failing to declare over US$44,000, police in the South American country has said.
The woman’s name was not revealed because she had not been charged at the time the report was disclosed, however the authorities said she is a 36-year-old resident of South Ruimveldt in Georgetown, Guyana.
Police said she was detained by the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) after being found in possession of US$44,688.
According to the police, the woman failed to declare the cash on arrival at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana, aboard a St. Lucia flight at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
