The male who was held in connection with the wounding of a “disabled” young man has been released from police custody without charge, according to law enforcement sources.
Despite the suspect’s release, investigations continue, sources say.
The victim, who has speech impairment, was wounded after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the William Peter Boulevard in Castries, and transported to hospital where he was treated for what eyewitnesses and medical sources described as a “partially severed” penis.
A video showing the victim bleeding profusely on the Boulevard sidewalk went viral (see video below the story).
The victim’s caretaker, Florence Cherubin, is calling for justice as well as help with the young man.
She told HTS News that a man came towards the young man, made him pull his pants down then “sliced” his penis with a knife.
“This is a … disabled child. Everyone have to see its a disabled boy that there.. Stop taking advantage of him,” she said.
Cherubin is calling on the authorities for help to get the young man off the streets as she fears someone will eventually kill him.
“I need the government to put him somewhere please before they kill him…. It’s very bad,” she said.
Cherubin, a former STEP worker, said she also desperately needs help for herself and her six children.
The unemployed 51-year-old said her family was displaced after fire destroyed their home about one year ago.
Since then, her children have been on the streets and at different peoples’ homes.
She said she has made her plight known to several politicians as well as the social services, but she has yet to get the assistance she really needs.
She said persons wishing to assist her can call her at 518-6916.
