A man who was convicted of a homicide is in police custody in connection with the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman in Choiseul on Monday morning, according to sources.
The suspect was imprisoned for fatally stabbing a man several years ago, sources say.
It is alleged that the ex-convict dragged the young woman into bushes and sexually assaulted her.
She was rescued by passersby who held the suspect, tied him up and alerted the police.
Charges against the suspect are expected to be laid soon.
In a separate case, police are investigating the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl in Dennery.
