The man who was charged in connection with the death of Saadia Byron of Laborie has been remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
Anyika Montoute, 31, of Laborie made his first court appearance today, Friday, March 23, 2018, charged with causing death by bodily injury.
Montoute was one of four men who were held in custody assisting police with their investigations into the matter. They were released but Montoute was rearrested on Tuesday, officials said.
Saadia’s semi-nude body was discovered on November 11, 2017 in a shallow stone grave, about 25 metres from her home at Black Bay, Laborie where she lived with her mother and three children.
The incident had attracted national attention and an outpour of grief for the families of the victim.
In an interview with this reporter, Georginia Byron, the victim’s mother, said she wanted her grandchildren to see the face of the alleged killer.
“My grandchildren kept asking me when is the case…”
She said she is still devastated by the incident, which the family is having a very difficult time coping with.
According to Georginia, over the past few months, she has been “walking up and down” to the police station seeking answers from the police as to what has happened to the case.
A number of persons from Laborie had accused one of the men who had a relationship with the victim for the crime. Even family members of the victim had said they strongly believe he had something to do with the murder, because he had stalked Saadia on several occasions.
And now that someone else has been charged in connection with the crime, Georginia said she is sorry for accusing the man.
