(SNO) – Yesterday’s story about the assault on 50-year-old Marilise Murphy and her boyfriend Stephen Jn Louis by their neighbours in Balata, Babonneau has attracted a lot of sympathy for the couple from the general public, judging by the comments supporting them.
However, there are a few bloggers who have come out in support of their attackers, sisters Leann Mitchell and her sister Kannesha Mitchell, who have been charged for assaulting their neighbours.
One of those bloggers, writing under the name “Community Member”, said there is another side to the story and that Murphy is not what she appears to be. The blogger alleges that at the least, both sides should share the blame for the ongoing drama and violence.
This is what the community member alleged (edited): “As a member of the community, Miss Murphy and Mr. Jn Louis need to come out and speak the whole truth. I am not friends or even close to the persons mentioned. I have had my misunderstandings with relatives, but in truth, Miss Murphy has been at those people from the time she came in the area.
“It started when she took a woman’s case against them for her own. Her exact words were ‘they could never do me what they do to her’. I heard it myself. She then started complaining about music, even went to Courts to ask them to go collect the people music set. The music stopped but Miss Murphy never did. I am not saying that what was done to her should have been done. Mr. Jn Louis has been spoken to by numerous person of the community but he has cursed them off, even the person who gave him permission to build on the family was cursed off to.
“We need to not only look at one side of this, but as the saying goes NO ONE SEES WHEN YOU ARE PROVOKED BUT ALWAYS SEE WHEN YOU RETALIATE. IT IS TIME FOR THIS TO STOP. WE NEED THE COMMUNITY THAT WE HAD. Leann had a cricket team for the community before all of this. Miss Murphy please stop coming and sit by my grandmother’s shop to talk about the people who never talk about you. And note to the public, Miss Murphy insists that this is not done and over with. Other members of the community please share. We need the peace.”
Another blogger, named “Mar Parsay”, did not mince words either about Murphy, alleging that she created the same firestorm while living in Marc, Bexon.
“That woman lived in Marc and made people lives miserable,” the person wrote. “When she didn’t get people to take on, she would take on dogs on the streets. Don’t mind ya’ll, if ya’ll knew. Be strong Leann. All I will say is better you than me.”
In another post, the same blogger, “Marc Parsay”, wrote: “It is definitely the other way around. That woman used to live Marc, and if she did not leave she would have gotten worst than what she had now. All her family members know how she like trouble. That woman would quarrel with dogs when nobody taking her on with her sh–. Leann and family be strong. Better you all than me. People in Marc will shake your hands.”
A law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation told our newsroom that Murphy was the instigator in some of the incidents, and noted that both parties share equal responsibility for the ongoing feud.
The official said the police is planning to hold a mediation meeting with the parties involved, with the hopes of getting a permanent and peaceful solution.
The official went on to say that despite the issues being encountered by the neighbours, violence was unnecessary and is not the answer. In fact, violence will make the situation worse, the official said.
Police said Murphy was assaulted and stabbed multiple times in her face and an arm. Her boyfriend was also assaulted in the fracas.
On Friday, June 1, 2018, Leann Mitchell and her sister Kannesha Mitchell were charged in connection with the attack on their neighbours in Balata. Leann was charged for causing wounds to Murphy and bailed in the sum of $1,000 on her own recognizance, to attend court on August 3.
Kannesha was charged for assaulting Murphy and Jn Louis, as well as causing damage to Murphy’s eyeglasses during that same incident. She was also bailed on her own recognizance in the sum of $1,000, on each charge, and to attend court on August 3.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Murphy has told police that she is in fear of her life after allegedly receiving a threat after her neighbours were charged.
She sells pastries and dahls in Castries for a living.
St. Lucia News Online (SNO) obtained a copy of a warning letter that was issued in November 2017 to Leann by Murphy through an attorney from the Legal Aid Authority. SNO understands that this is the second such letter that has been issued on behalf of Murphy.
