Homicide victims: #13 Elton Fontenelle, #14 Stephen James, and #15 Gregory Philip.
(SNO) – A total of 15 homicides have been recorded in Saint Lucia as of Sunday, June 10, 2018.
On that same date last year, 27 homicides were recorded. A record 60 homicides were recorded in 2017.
Homicide #15 this year was confirmed following the post mortem examination on the body of Gregory Philip, a resident of New Development, Soufriere.
The examination, conducted on Monday, June 4, 2018 by Dr. Wayne Felicien, revealed that Philip, also known as ‘Checkie’ or ’Chucky’, died of pulmonary hemorrhage, secondary to neck fracture, police said.
Philip’s death was branded a “suspicious death” after police received reports that he fell during a domestic dispute in Cressland, Soufriere on Saturday, June 2, around 9 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the Etangs Wellness Centre by a medical practitioner, police said.One person was reportedly in custody in connection with the incident. Homicide #14: Stephen James, aka Tupac, a 29-year-old resident of Patience, Mon Repos, was stabbed to death during a dispute at a bar/shop in La Pointe, Mon Repos on Saturday, June 2, 2018, around 8 p.m. Three people, including a female, were taken into police custody. Our newsroom is unable to say at this time if they were charged.
Homicide #13: Elton Raymond Fontenelle, 30, was shot and killed in Castries on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Three young men and a nine-year-old girl were injured in the incident. Two men – one of whom was injured in the shooting – were charged for firearm-related offences after guns and ammunition were found in their possession. No one has been specifically charged for killing Fontenelle, who is rumoured to have been the gunman.
