(SNO) – Police on Monday, June 11, 2018 launched an investigation into the burglary of Cyril’s shop/bar in La Croix Maingot.
One of the owners discovered that the wooden structure was broken into around 7 a.m. when he arrived to open for business.
The crime is suspected to have occurred in the wee hours of the morning as the shop was closed shortly after midnight.
The thieves gained entrance to the shop by breaking the door and left with just over $5,000 worth of items – including $750 in cash.
One of the owners, who preferred not to use his name, described the situation as depressing.
He said normally at this time, country and western music would be heard coming from the shop, but the thieves stole the laptop and amplifier – the items that were used as the music system.
The businessman said it was the shop that made the immediate surroundings lively. He added that several members of the community have been coming to inquire about the silence – only to hear the sad news about the break-in.
Items stolen included:
* Dry goods – flour (only two parcels left), sugar, macaroni and cheese (only one box left), cornflakes, rice, soap, sausage, tuna, lighters, among other items
* Clothes – boxers and vests
* Alcohol – all the rum, most of them well-known local and foreign brands
He said the police arrived this morning and are carrying out their investigations, adding that security measures will be put in place soon.
