(SNO) – A thief learned valuable lessons on Saturday, June 16: don’t steal, and don’t mess with St. Lucians and their alcohol.
A man in his 30s, from Marchand, Castries, was reportedly beaten by a motorist who accused him of stealing a bottle of Hennessy Cognac from a parked car on Jeremie Street, Castries. The incident occurred between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Two police officers, who were not in unformed, rescued the man while he was being beaten with a piece of wood.
The man later admitted to the officers that he stole the liquor and had sold it for $20. The Hennessy costs about $200.
The lawmen later recovered the stolen item and cautioned all the parties involved in the fracas.
The owner of the stolen liquor did not press charges and everyone was free to go their way.
