Taxi driver Moses Bertrand, who has been criticised for settling a matter outside of court with an American tourist who stabbed him multiple times in an alleged unprovoked attack, has suggested that he made the right decision and people can assume as much as they want.
In an exclusive interview with St. Lucia News Online (SNO) on Thursday, Bertrand, when asked what’s his response to the criticisms, said: “They can say what they want. I know what I know.”
Bertrand declined to expand on his response to SNO and the case.
However, he disclosed that he is not back at work but his injuries “are not too bad” this time.
“Yea, I am fine,” he said.
Bertrand said he is expected to resume his taxi services in about two weeks.
Jerry Christopher Marino, 26, of California, USA who was recently charged for allegedly wounding Bertrand on April 1, 2014 on the Millennium Highway, Castries, attended a mediation session with Bertrand and lawyers on April 11, 2014.
Reports indicated that the taxi driver had agreed to settle the matter out of court.
Details of that settlement are still unknown but Marino’s lawyer, in a brief comment to reporters on April 11, said he was pleased with the outcome of the mediation hearing.
