Police sources have confirmed that a body, burnt beyond recognition, was discovered in the remains of Range Rover in the Windward Hills area of Cap Estate, Gros Islet Saturday night.
St. Lucia News Online (SNO) first got the report about 12:51 a.m. of a fire in Cap Estate and that the charred remains of a body was found in a vehicle. Our news team was however told by the source that a report was made as early as 9:30 p.m. about the incident.
However, at the time (around 1 a.m.) when we made our inquiries, an officer at the Gros Islet Police Station confirmed that they received a report but could not immediately provide details or verify certain info we requested. So leaning on the side of caution, SNO decided not to broadcast the unofficial report.
SNO searched for the scene until 2 a.m. without luck. Our news team observed the Rambally’s vehicle and the police team pass us twice on Windward Hill Road while we were heading out.
However, news surfaced later this morning confirming the discovery of the burnt body and vehicle.
The body, believed to be that of a male, is still unidentified. It was found in the front passenger seat.
Police are currently combing their records for clues, checking for missing vehicle and person reports.
This is the third such discovery so far this year.
