(SNO) — Two Saint Lucians with similar circumstances.
Like Botham Shem Jean, Kimberly De Leon was shot and killed in her own home.
A Dallas cop — Amber Guyger — was arrested and charged for Jean’s killing in Dallas, U.S., but no one, to date, has been arrested for killing De Leon, the wife of a senior police officer who is a “person of interest” in the case – though not a suspect.
The Justice for Botham Jean Team is also advocating for justice for De Leon, the 42-year-old mother of two, who like Jean, was an accountant. De Leon worked for the Ministry of Education in Saint Lucia and Jean worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the U.S.
Nicole David, a member of the Justice for Botham Jean Team, said the organisation is throwing its support behind the family of De Leon who was “brutally murdered in her own home”.
David said “by no means necessary” should society accept violence against women, encouraging everyone to “stand up and speak up against it”.
The Botham Jean team, on Monday, Nov. 5, called on the public to wear blue in solidarity with De Leon, and red for Jean on Tuesday, Nov. 5. David said red was Jean’s favourite colour.
“We want justice for Kimberly,” she said.
De Leon was shot in the head at her home on Chef Harry Drive in Morne Fortune, Castries on Oct. 29, 2018. Her two children were reportedly at home during that time.
