PRESS RELEASE - About 9:30 p.m. on Friday April 25, 2014, officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station were summoned to a scene of a vehicular fire at Cap Estate, Gros Islet.

On arrival, the officers observed what appeared to be the charred remains of a human being in the passenger side of a burned out SUV. The remains were transported to the Victoria Hospital mortuary. A post mortem examination began on the body on Monday, April 28, 2014 and will continue on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is yet to confirm the identity of this individual. The organisation wishes to distance itself from reports published in the foreign press regarding the identity of this individual, who is quoted to be the remains of Oliver Gobat of Cap Estate.  The organisation is not in a position to definitively make any pronouncement and is awaiting the results of the post mortem examination. In the absence of scientific evidence, we cannot conclusively make an identification.

The RSLPF deals primarily with facts and as it stands, the organisation is working assiduously to determine the identity of this individual.

The media and members of the public are asked to be mindful, that the police cannot operate under the basis of speculation in the course of its investigations.
