Parliament issued a statement today following reports that former House Speaker Matthew Roberts was hospitalised.
“The Parliament of Saint Lucia has with deep regret learnt of the hospitalization of former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Matthew Roberts. Whilst the details surrounding the incident are not yet known, we wish Mr. Roberts a speedy and full recovery,” the statement added.
Reports are that Roberts was allegedly robbed on Sunday morning by an unknown individual. He sustained injuries to his neck and hands.
He had stopped for an individual in Roseau and was assisting the person with a ride, who in return attacked and robbed him.
Roberts was found in Cul de Sac and his vehicle was later found abandoned. He is said to be in a stable condition at hospital.
