Police said they seized 259.5 pounds of cannabis in a boat off the Soufriere Coast on August 18, 2013.
A press release states that the drugs were found when two locals were intercepted in a St. Lucian Pirogue vessel “In God We Trust” at about 10 a.m. 7.7 nautical miles off the coast and within St. Lucia’s territorial waters.
The release states that marine personnel attached to the southern division, upon searching the vessel and its occupants, found the drugs.
“Both individuals were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for the offences of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.,” the release said.
“Charges are expected to be laid against them at a later date. Investigations are currently ongoing,” it further stated.
