The injury Monrose sustained from the alleged beating.

The Praedial Larceny Unit said it is not aware of any situation that involves a 33-year-old man in Micoud being allegedly beaten by special police constables.

Officer-in-charge of the Praedial Larceny Unit in the south, Kasha Mitchel, said she would have to investigate the matter to ascertain whether the incident is true.

Mitchel told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) today that she would have to first speak with the constables and her supervisor to verify that information, while noting that her supervisor is currently off island.

The official said even if the information is true, she would still need to speak with her supervisor, before she is allowed to make any statements regarding the matter.

This publication first made contact with the Ministry of Agriculture, to speak with the head of the unit, but was told that he is in a meeting.

SNO was later put onto the office in the north, before getting in touch with Mitchel, who is in charge of the south.

A Micoud family has accused special police constables attached to the Praedial Larceny Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture for allegedly beating a 33-year-old male relative on Tuesday evening.

Daniel Monrose of La Pointe, Mon Repos, claims he was eating a grapefruit in a garden in a place called The Pointe in La Pointe, Mon Repos on January 2, 2015 when a man saw him and assumed that he stole it from his tree. The man reported the matter to police.

On Tuesday, the man saw food missing from his garden and called the unit and asked them to warn Monrose. The police reportedly showed up on Tuesday evening and picked up Monrose from the street, and brought him to the garden where the officers allegedly used a wood to beat him.
