POLICE PRESS RELEASE - Officers attached to the Richfond Police Station are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident which occurred at Aux Leon, Dennery on Saturday, September 7, 2013 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Reports indicate that 27-year-old Cuthbert Joseph, also known as Golda of Aux Leon, Dennery, and 62-year-old Phillip Hippolyte, also known as Ras Mazumba of La Pearle, Dennery, were enroute to their garden when they were accosted by five armed men.
The men proceeded to tie up Phillip and Joseph. During such time, Joseph attempted to elude the men when several shots were fired in his direction.
Hippolyte was able to free himself sometime later and went in search of his companion who he found lying on his back several feet away from where he was tied. Joseph appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body. Subsequently, Hippolyte proceeded to the Richfond Police Station where he made a report.
Joseph was later conveyed to Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for a later date. Investigation into the matter continues.

EARLIER REPORT: Man shot and killed in Dennery (published Sept. 7, 2013)
Police are investigating the shooting of a man at Anse Louvet, Aux Lyon in Dennery at about 7 am today.
The dead man has been identified as 27-year-old Cuthbert Joseph aka Golda. A second man who was involved in the incident escaped.
Though the incident occurred since 6 am, the matter was reported to police at about 2:30 pm.
St. Lucia News Online understands that two men, including the deceased, were accosted on the beach by unknown person (s).
One of the men was shot as he ran away. He reportedly kept running and subsequently collapsed and died.
The other man was then tied up and had his mouth taped, according to reports.
He however managed to later free himself and went looking for help.
“He met some people slaughtering a pig and asked for assistance and was told they could only help him after they’d finished their slaughtering,” a source in the area said.
“They did assist him when they finished slaughtering and brought him to Richfond Police Station. The police went looking for the other man but found him dead from the gunshot wound,” the source added.
Police sources have not yet confirmed reports that the men were accosted in a marijuana field when the incident happened.
This killing brings to 23 the number of homicides reported so far this year.
