Minister Emma Hippolyte

Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet Emma Hippolyte has expressed condolences to the family of Chereece Benoit who was found dead at her home in La Feuille, Monchy Thursday night.

In a Facebook post, Minister Hippolyte said: “Death is the one thing in life that is certain. However, the untimely death of Cherise Benoit has stirred in me a grief and confusion that I cannot adequately contextualise. To her family, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to you. Your loss although painful can be comforted only through our Lord and Saviour. My devotions at Mass this morning were centred around the decay of our society and ended with a fervent prayer that we as a nation would re-examine our lives, that we would have greater respect for self and each other and that we may show the Love of Christ which is in all of us. ”

She added: “As I continue to read the anguish, pain, and confusion in her peers’ status, I take comfort in knowing that she was loved, that she lived and loved. As we go about our day with somber hearts, let us remember the family and friends who are suffering. Let us remember people in our neighbourhood, in our country and in our world who suffer but let us remember that the love of God will see us through. We have to believe although this time seems dark.

“I pray that whatever you choose to do with your weekend that you take some quiet time to reflect on your life and no matter how angry we get that we remember that we serve a God who loves us unconditionally. Have a safe weekend – and again, my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Cherise Benoit. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

Hippolyte is also the Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs.
