An audit will be undertaken at the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) soon to determine how more effective its resources could be utilized for the benefit of the general public.
This disclosure was made by Police Commissioner Severin Moncherry recently, who said that there is need for better resource management at the RSLPF, given the limited crop that is currently has.
Moncherry said the audit will determine how each department is operating under its current compliment of staff and in cases where a unit is overstaffed, the additional staff will be placed in areas that are in need of staff.
The commissioner admitted that the main challenge for the RSLPF is resources and the only way the Force can better serve the public is by utilizing these resources in a more effective way.
Adding to what Moncherry said, acting Deputy Police Commissioner Milton Desir said in some cases, units are struggling with manpower and there is always a need for more staff.
Desir said the audit will help to make better use of the 1,400 staff currently employed with the Force.
However, he said certain things must be taken into account, for example, officers require: sick leave, vacation leave, rest day, and are required to work an 8 hour shift system.
An average officer gets 21 days leave each year and are often times required to change shifts.
There have been concerns raised about the need to have more persons employed with the Force, as the number is slowing decreasing, especially since many persons have started retirement or quit.
