The principal and teachers of St. Mary’s College have managed to identify at least one person who might be responsible for the recent robberies at the school, with the assistance of several students.

Principal of the college Rowan Seon told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) on Friday that it is understood that the person identified, belongs to a gang in La Clery.

Seon said he will visit the police later this afternoon to provide them with the information they have gathered.

He is hoping that the bandits could be arrested and that peace is restored to the school.

Asked what new measures have been put in place since the last incident where students were robbed at knife-point by two bandits on September 6, Seon said no new security measures have been put in place.

The principal had written the Ministry of Education, informing them of the incident and requesting their assistance but to date no one has called to meet and discuss this issue with the school.

Education Minister Dr. Gale Rigobert had however said that her ministry will provide the necessary resources to ensure that the school is more secure and that it could bring some level of comfort to the students.

“I am hoping that something is done soon, because I have been trying to get some help to put some measures in place since the last incident and nothing has been happening,”Seon told SNO.

He said the school is not able to do much at this time because of the lack of resources and the Ministry of Education will have to fund the new security feature at the school.

Asked what he would suggest could be done to protect students, Duke said,” We need to have personnel on the compound who can provide security because its a very large compound sprawling of many corners. We need at least two people here on a first hand basis in the morning until the afternoon.”

The minister of education is expected to visit the school at noon today.
