Recently released statistics indicate there was less crime on island last year when compared to 2012.
The information coming out of the Central Intelligence Unit of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force shows that 19,038 criminal incidents were recorded in 2013 – a decrease from 21,334 in 2012. This reflects a drop of 2296 criminal incidents.
The rate of murders has also gone down. Thirty-seven murders were recorded in 2012 with 34 last year. Based on the police force’s yearly recorded murder comparison, the murder rate has been decreasing over the past four years.
For 2013, on a district level, 62 percent of crimes occurred in Castries. This means the most crimes were recorded in the capital.
Gros Islet was the next in line with 11 percent.
