Over 5,300 penalty tickets issued by St. Lucian police officers in 2013 have not been paid and warrants are being issued for delinquent persons.
Last year, the Traffic Department, through patrols and traffic checks, issued 6,399 fixed penalty tickets with an estimated value of EC$2,920,550. However, only 1,039 tickets were settled.
These statistics were revealed today, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at a police press conference by Acting Sergeant of Police Foster Chicot, who is attached to the Traffic Department in Castries.
But Chicot said his department has not forgotten about those who have not paid up.
“You will well understand that if you are issued a ticket, you can walk to the court, First District Court office, where you can pay the fines, and 1,039 were paid that way. So we have a substantial number of tickets, well over 4,000 tickets, resulting in warrants issued to persons from the district courts,” Chicot told reporters.
