The issue of human trafficking will take the spotlight here at a workshop organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
IOM is the leading inter-governmental organisation in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 155 member states, a further 11 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration, for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems, and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.
Two resource persons from the IOM will facilitate a three-day trainers session from this Tuesday at the Bay Gardens Hotel, Bougainvillea Conference Room to sensitise stakeholders about human trafficking.
Thirty participants have registered to attend the workshop being held under the auspices of Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security.
The ministry describes the activity as a “timely initiative as St. Lucia continues to support the agenda of the IOM within the island’s own domestic context, through the formulation of policy and implementation of legislation”.
