Human Rights Advocate Mary Francis has been invited to assist the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) in its ongoing course on human rights and humanitarian law.

According to a police press release, Francis has “graciously agreed” to make the presentations to three groups, which will benefit from the training.

“Late last year, Ms. Francis appeared on the police talk show ‘Call the Police’ and has consistently remained accessible and fully co-operative in regards to assisting the police,” the release said.

“The RSLPF is of the view that police and human right advocates can co-exist, once each other knows their roles and responsibilities. The police look forward to working closely with human rights advocates in the community as they are part of the checks and balances in society,” the release added.

Superintendent Severin Monchery, officer responsible for training, believes that fighting crime and social disorders, law enforcement agencies should have checks and balances, the press release stated.
