A St. Lucian accused of attempted murder, who’s been on the run from French law enforcement for two years, has been captured by Toronto Police.

Thirty-one-year-old Cleus Ernest of St. Lucia is wanted by French authorities in Martinique for shooting a police officer.

During a drug investigation in Martinique on June 15, 2010 by Martinique police, Ernest allegedly shot a police officer and fled the scene. The police was reportedly executing a warrant at the time.

Ernest apparently found himself in Canada, prompting French authorities to inform the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad in December 2013 of his whereabouts.

Ernest who is considered an “international wanted fugitive” was arrested after Toronto Police confirmed he was hiding in Toronto. He was caught on Monday, February 10, “without incident” in the Dufferin Street/Sheppard Avenue West area.

Preparations are being made for him to be extradited. Normally, when an accused or suspect is living in a country but wanted in another country for a crime, he is sent back to the country where he allegedly committed the crime to be charged or prosecuted.

St. Lucia News Online has not been able to get a photo of Ernest.
