A 27-year-old man was fatally shot in Piat, Grand Riviere in Gros Islet early this morning, relatives and law enforcement sources have confirmed.
The victim has been identified as Shem Cherry, aka ‘Snake Oil’, a resident of Corinth, Gros Islet.
Relatives and law enforcement sources told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that Cherry sustained four gunshot wounds.
A law enforcement source said emergency officials received the report around 2 a.m. and when they arrived on the scene Cherry showed “no vital signs”.
He was transported by ambulance to Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting was not immediately clear.
Relatives told SNO that Cherry and friends attended a remembrance event that began last evening for the late 25-year-old Dylan Joseph aka P’Cock, who was fatally stabbed by his 18-year-old girlfriend in Grand Riviere, Gros Islet on Jan. 8, 2017.
Cherry was on Wednesday, June 7 tagged on Facebook to attend his friend’s memorial.
The poster reads: “GR massive all inclusive in loving memory of PCock. Date: 09th June 2017. Venue: Perry’s Place Piat. Time: 8 p.m.-until. Reminder everyone bring a couple bottles to get a drink brand.”
Relatives said Cherry was the father of three children – two girls (ages 6 and 2+) and one boy (about seven months old. They said he has a fourth child on the way.
His death is the 27th homicide recorded for 2017.
