Admitting that her brother had a long-standing dispute with some individuals, Kathy Cherry said the shooting death of Seame Cherry was not a surprise.
Seame, a 27-year-old Corinth, Gros Islet resident, who was also known as ‘Shem’ and ‘Snake Oil’, was shot four times in Piat, Grand Riviere, Gros Islet around 2 a.m. on June 10 while at a remembrance party for a male friend who was killed in January.
Speaking to HTS News, his sister said that after finding out about his death, she was left to question why Seame would decide to attend the remembrance party when he knew he was in trouble with certain individuals.
“When I went to the door it was my uncle, he tell me don’t jump. He tell me they kill Chem and I was like ‘Oh my God’. Chem know that he is in trouble with guys and stuff, what is he going to at a party? Why is he going there? And I know he had already take a fall on the bike and he was not even walking too well and he went to the party,” she said.
“So in a way I was not surprised because all that trouble, because off and on I used to hear he was… fighting and the guys were after him, and again the little scooter he had, all that brought jealousy so I really don’t know,” she said.
The victim’s sibling and family are still coming to terms with his death.
“This is the first time I’m losing a real close family member like a brother of mine, and now I know what it feels like to lose family,” She said.
Seame was a father of three children, with a fourth reportedly on the way.
He had survived a previous shooting and may have been attempting to change his life, relatives told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) after his death.
They say that they are not sure if the previous shooting had any connection with his murder. They however revealed that the bullet from that previous shooting was still lodged inside his body and he told them it reminded him every day that he will need to change his life.
Seame’s post mortem was scheduled to be carried out on Monday, June 12, 2017.
