Ashanti

(SNO) – Former Calypso Monarch Herman ‘Ashanti’ Hippolyte, who had been reported missing since Friday, is currently at Victoria Hospital, according to reports.

He was reportedly kidnapped by a group of men on Friday, beaten, and robbed then dropped off on Calvary Road, Castries where he was found by residents late Tuesday afternoon.

The veteran calypsonian was reportedly on his way home from work with his salary from his employer, the Castries City Council, when he was confronted by at least three men who shoved him into a vehicle and drove him into an unknown location where he was assaulted.

He is currently in stable condition.

In an earlier report, Ashanti had told a family member on Friday that he was held by police for urinating in public, according to reports. It is not known if he was coerced into telling that story while being kidnapped.

A person claiming to be the cousin of the calypsonian had also told St. Lucia News Online that the family feared that criminals may have kidnapped him for debts owed by his son who sells in the market.
