A male tourist accused of stabbing a local taxi driver multiple times recently is still a patient at the psychiatric unit of a local medical institution

His identity/nationality is yet to be revealed.

Police have told Saint Lucia News Online (SNO) that there is no determination as to when or if he will be charged.

“We are just waiting for him to be released from the medical institution to carry out investigations,” Police Public Relations Officer Aniel Innocent told SNO.

The tourist in question allegedly stabbed Moses Bertrand on April 1, 2014 on the Millennium Highway, Castries, about 9:30 a.m.

The attack reportedly occurred after the male tourist and his female companion boarded Bertrand’s bus from Marigot en route to a hotel in the north. He was transported to Victoria Hospital on an ambulance and subsequently discharged. Bertrand was stabbed in the mouth, shoulder and hand.

Last week,a source involved in the investigation told SNO that the tourist was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

The results are expected to provide guidance to the police investigations. The source also told SNO that insurance compensation was being discussed with officials for the stab victim.
