UPDATE: Sans Souci man granted bail on firearm offences

Forty-year-old Clendon Wayne Gabriel of Sans Souci, Castries appeared before the First District Court in Castries on Monday, April 7, 2014 to answer to the charges of possession of firearm, possession of ammunition and importation of firearm without a license.

He was bailed in the sum of $7,000 each on the charge of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, and $10,000 on the charge of importation of firearm.

Bail could be paid by cash, suitable surety or land documents.

Gabriel, who was arrested on Friday, April 4 at a shipping facility in Cul De Sac, is scheduled to make another court appearance on May 8, 2014.

PRESS RELEASE -About 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, officers attached to the Drug Unit engaged in an operation at a shipping facility at Cul De Sac, Castries.

During that time, the officers monitored a barrel being examined in the presence of a male when a suspicious package was retrieved. The officers converged, and upon closer examination, the package contained three 9mm magazines, two of 50-round capacity and the other of 30-round capacity.

The individual was taken into custody and investigation into the matter continued. Later that said day, having obtained and executed a search warrant upon his premises located at Sans Souci, Castries, a 9mm firearm with several rounds of ammunition was recovered.

The 40-year-old individual is expected to be charged later today (Monday, April 7, 2014) on firearm and ammunition offences.

It is expected that he will appear before the First District Court in Castries on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 to answer to the said charges.
