St. Lucian man accused of killing Dominican girlfriend granted bail

A Saint Lucian man accused of killing his Dominican girlfriend last year has been granted bail.

Marcus Charlery, who was on remand at the Dominica State Prison since being arrested for the murder in November 2013, appeared before a magistrate on Friday, April 11, 2014.

His bail was granted in the sum of $100,000 after it was initially denied. Two sureties stood for his release.

Gloria Celestine, 34, was found dead on November 9 in Lagoon, Portsmouth after she was reported missing three days earlier.

She had five children – one of whom Chalery fathered.

Under his bail, Chalery will report to the Portsmouth Police Station daily and submit his travel documents. He is also ordered to inform the court of any change of address.

In addition, the defendant is also prohibited from associating with any person/s involved with his case. He was further ordered to stay at least 150 feet away from all ports of entry or exit in Dominica.

His matter comes up before the courts on May 13, 2014.
