The family of property developer Oliver Gobat, who was reported missing, has acknowledged that he is dead.
UK’s Daily Mail is reporting that his parents released a statement on Wednesday, confirming that the charred body found in a burnt car on Cap Estate last Friday is 38-year-old Oliver Gobat. The Gobat’s own a five-star boutique hotel at Cap Estate.
This week, the police force indicated that the identity of the burnt human remains has not yet been identified. The body was reportedly found in Oliver’s Range Rover, hours after his family reported him missing to police.
A post mortem examination which began on Monday, April 28, should have been completed on Tuesday, April 29. Until the results have not been disclosed and in the absence of scientific evidence, the police said it would “distance itself from reports published in the foreign press regarding the identity of this individual, who is quoted to be the remains of Oliver Gobat of Cap Estate.”
However, Gobat’s family took to foreign media, expressing devastation over the death of the British-educated multi-millionaire. He was born in St. Lucia, but also held British citizenship.
“The Gobat family are devastated by the sudden and tragic death of their son and brother Oliver on Friday, April 25 in St Lucia, the island where he was born and which he loved. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of messages and love but we do need to grieve and we would ask for privacy at this time.
There will be a celebration of the life of Oliver Gobat held in St Lucia for family and friends this Saturday, May 3, from 5 p.m. and a memorial will be held in the UK in the near future with dates and details to follow,” the Gabat’s Family statement read.
Double Olympic Decathlon Champion Daley Thompson and Olympic Heptathlon gold medalist Denise Lewis, both of the UK, have tweeted condolences to the Gabat Family.
