Four male students of the George Charles Secondary School were taken into police custody for questioning following a report of rape by a female student.
The alleged incident reportedly took place Wednesday afternoon when the principal and vice principal were off the school compound attending a workshop, ironically for boys at risk and with behavioural problems.
Principal Wulstan Alfred has confirmed that a report was made by the 12-year-old female student to a teacher after the alleged attack. He said the school immediately called the police.
The boys range in the age of 15 to 16 years.
A special assembly was held where the students were reassured of their safety and reminded of the code of conduct and standards expected. The district counselor was called in to assist the school counselor in meeting with the students who needed to express their feelings.
Alfred openly admitted that the alleged incident has cast a shadow on the school, but appealed for calm from staff, students, parents and the wider public, and allow due process to take its course.
