Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has announced that he plans to address concerns over reports that the United States has decided to disallow St. Lucian police officers from participating in several training programmes it organised or financed.

A press release from the Prime Minister’s Office described the reports as “serious and complex” issues.

“The government of Saint Lucia is aware of the concerns and anxieties expressed by the public over the decision by the United States to disallow officers of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force from participating in several training programmes arranged or financed by the United States. The government also appreciates that these concerns and anxieties extend to the ranks of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force,” the release stated.

“These reactions are understandable especially as delicate matters of security are involved. It is also undeniable that it is in our vital interest to maintain close ties of co-operation with the United States in security matters. The issues are serious and complex. Consequently, we will, on a date to be announced early next week,  issue a statement to explain and address the issues of concern and in particular, the reasons for the actions of the United States against officers of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force,” the release added.
